CRAFTING FINE MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
I have been working with stringed instruments for over ten years, and in the summer of 2009 I made it my full time commitment. Its aesthetics, sounds and history has all played a part in my growing passion for them. Making great sounding and looking instruments is how I want to contribute to the world of music. My instruments are humble and earthy while still retaining the sophistication and refinement expected from a fine musical instrument.
In 1999 I had the privilege to be trained by Norman Reed at the Totnes School of Guitar Making in Totnes, England. There I learned the fundamentals of acoustic and electric guitar construction and design. In late 2001 I had the opportunity to study under master violinmaker, Jonathan Cooper which became a two year part-time apprenticeship at his workshop in Southern Maine. I am very grateful to Jon for his generousity and my learning experience. I learned the essence of arch top acoustic principals and fine woodworking in the traditions of violin making.
A diverse set of experineces have influenced my work from working with timber framers, chefs, jewelers and an architect to receiving a BFA degree in sculpture. Over time these experiences introduced me to a wide array of materials and techniques as expressed through my works in paintings, jewelry, ceramics, and sculptures of sound and water.
