INSTRUMENTS

Archtops:

The arch top instruments I am producing each have a design that is unique to my own artistic impressions, yet retains the sensibilities of the tried and true centuries old violin making aesthetics and construction techniques. Each instrument whether it is a guitar or ukulele is constructed to the same high standards of craftsmanship. I use hide glue extensivly throughout the instrument, which produces superior joints for acoustic instruments. It also makes certain repairs more efficient and successful creating a longer lived instrument.

During the construction process the sound of the instrument can be tailored to the suite the player providing superior tonal qualities for each instrument. This is achieved by wood selection and adjustments to the instruments architecture i.e. arching, size, bracing, ect. This voicing of the instrument makes it versatile enough for jazz, finger style, funk, bluegrass and even classical with a nylon string version. It could be equally tailored to other styles as well. I also hope it still expresses its own personality as a unique instrument.

Currently I make a fully acoustic archtop model and a "hybrid" archtop model that provides both acoustic and electric qualities. The "hybrid" model features my unique adjustable sound post that enables acoustic tonal changes as well as feedback resistance in live stage circumstances where high volume can effect acoustic instruments. As with all my instruments neck demensions are tailored to the players preferences. Guitar, bass, mandolin, banjo, weisenborn and ukulele are available in either acoustic or hybrid models.

Arch top A style mandolin – Robbins model mandolin
The Robbins model mandolin is my version of an A-style mandolin with an oval sound hole, similar to a Gibson A2. The Robbins model was first conceived to deal with using a magnetic pickup on a mandolin with out interfering with the structure and acoustics of the instrument. With the optional pickup you have a real electric/acoustic instrument and using a sound hole instead of f holes made a space for the pickup to be easily installed and removed. With out the pickup the Robbins mandolin is an acoustic mandolin with great tone and versatility. It is made in the “old world” method, individually in an internal mold with solid linings, hand carved and graduated, overhanging edges, purfling, dovetailed neck and hot hide glue construction. Back, sides and neck are mahogany or maple and the fingerboard is ebony bound ebony with bone nut. The top is spruce with a redwood or spruce X brace. An adjustable ebony bridge is standard as well as Grover or gotoh tuners, upgrades are available. The instrument is French polished in a clear spirit varnish, Finish options available. Comes standard with hard case.

VIOLIN & BOW

My arch top instruments are inspired by the violin and I offer one model of full size violin or fiddle. It is closely based on a Stradivarius model with my own adjustments. And can be paired with a pernambuco bow that I make along with violin.

My bows are silver mounted with pernambucco stick and ebony frog. Please specify hair preferences and either round or octagonal stick.
