FLATTOPS

The flat top instruments I build are first designed by me to give each one unique qualities. Whether the instrument is a guitar or ukulele it is constructed to the same high standards of craftsmanship. As with my archtops I try to use hide glue as extensivly as posible throughout the instrument, and most importantly on the bracing and bridges. The sound of the instrument can be tailored to the suit the player providing power, clarity, sustainability, and brilliance.. This is achieved by wood selection and adjustments to the instruments architecture i.e. size, bracing, sound ports, ect. This voicing of the instrument makes it versatile enough for jazz, finger style, bluegrass and classical. It can be equally tailored to other styles as well, while still expressing its own personality. These instruments are available in steel and nylon string versions, with ebony friction pegs as a tuning machine option.

Please contact me for the wide variety of tuners available. Modles are available in guitar, bass, mandolin and ukulele. I may be contacted for all custom body size and scale length considerations as well as any electronic options the player may want.

Cusco model guitar - The Cusco model flattop guitar provides an excellent value for a hand made acoustic guitar. The back and sides are Peruvian walnut; which is an affordable, beautiful and well-balanced tone wood, and the top is available in a variety of species of fine tone wood. The neck is bolt on one-piece mahogany with ebony bound ebony fingerboard and its dimensions can be customized. Purfling and hard wood binding are standard as well as a hardwood/herringbone rosette. Latice braced "flemenco" style classical guitar - fir top and red wood bracing, maple back and sides with walnut accents and binding, maple and walnut neck with graphite truss, bloodwood fingerboard with silver dots, ebony bridge with pau shell accents. rosette is done in maple walnut and bloodwood all taken from the same timbers as used on the rest of the guitar. I used the flemanco style ebony friction pegs for an "old world" look and they also help to reduce weight. the finish is an unpolished spirit varnish hand applied.

Fan braced soprano ukulele - mahogany body and neck with carbon truss, redwood bracing, rosewood fingerboard, herringbone rosette, ebony bridge with paua shell accents, it is fitted with ebony friction pegs and finished in a hand applied and polished oil varnish

Currently instruments can be braced with my unique lattice system or in a conventional X or Fan system. Ukuleles are also available braced in more affordable standard martin bracing layout.
